Dr. R Varadarajan – Founder President of National Education Society and Saraswathi Vidya Bhavan started his educational voyage with 7 children in 1963 in an undeveloped suburb of Bhandup when he was only in his teens and just completed with school education. Even as he taught students, he empowered himself with graduate, postgraduate and doctorate degree. He was conferred upon the Ph.D degree by Dynora University, Italy.

Today, under his able leadership NES and SVB, its sister trust; have bloomed into a bouquet of 62 educational Institutions spread over 6 complexes, providing quality education to 42780 students with a teaching faculty of over 1285. These institutions are at Dharavi, Bhandup, Mulund, Dombivili, Parel and Dawdi (Thane) and offer education from pre–primary to doctorate level in the fields of Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Foreign Languages, Teacher’s Education, International curriculum,Pharmacy Education, Music, dance and Technology. NES also runs a school for the hearing impaired and one for slum children of Dharavi. NES Ratnam College is one of the flagship brands of the NES & SVB Group.

In recognition of his long and outstanding contribution to education field for five and a half decades, Dr. R. Varadarajan and his institutions have been honoured with following Awards and Recognition.

Awards and Recognition

1992Best Principal Award by Rotary International :
Received at New York, USA.
Came the recognition from the famous International Rotary Organization as the Best Principal for exemplary results turned over by his schools and colleges established till then.
1995National Award from the Honorable President of India :
The President of India awarded him as the Best Teacher in the ceremony conducted at Rashtrabhavan, New Delhi.
Cancellation of Postal Stamp by Govt. of India in honour of NES Institutions:
The excellence of the institutions established by him equally drew the attention of Govt. of India, which released a Postal Stamp.
1997Daughter of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr. Anita Bose Pfaff came down from Germany to commemorate her father – Netaji”s Birth Centenary through grand celebration in NES Complex Mumbai, when she conferred “ Best Educationist Award” on him which again was a First and only one in India.
2002The most appreciative terminology for his educational excellence was found by the Loksabha Speaker, when he recognized the educationist as Messiah of Education in 2002.
2004The planning commission came forward to recognize the Nation Wide Contribution of the founder and awarded him Centenarian Eminence Award at the hands of Member, Planning Commission in 2002
2006Third Episode of Twin Honour in 2006
1) Vidya Guru Award was conferred by the founder by Lions International for his remarkable contribution in the field of education in 2006.
2)“Education Leader of India” recognition conferred on the Founder- President by Asia famed magazine – The Education World in 2006
2007Guest Editor – The Times of India (NIE):
The Times of India (NIE) group seized the momentum. It invited him as Guest Editor on 27th November, 2007 and this NIE Edition received very high applause from the Times Group.
The Indian Merchants Chamber commemorating its Centenary conferred Ramakrishna Bajaj national Quality Award (Trophy) (2006) on NES as the Best Educational group of institution in the country on March 13, 2007.

2011Honoured at the British House of Commons by Mr. George Mudie, Sr. Statesman and Member of Parliament for his enormous contribution to the cause of education. First Indian to receive this honour.
2016Honoured with Life Time Achievement Award by Education World – Asia famed magazine for his exemplary contribution to the field of Education in December 2016 at New Delhi.
2017Honoured with Life Time Achievement Award by Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Chennai at the hands of H.H. Sri Jagadguru Sankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamiji for his enormous contribution to the cause of Education for a period of fifty five years.
